Wow, I know it's been ALMOST A YEAR - LOL! Whatever, I've been busy, very busy since my last post in February. I am now a permanent vendor at the National Harbor market in PG County, the market is closed for the season, however, I will be there for the holiday market which starts on the weekend after Thanksgiving and runs every Saturday (from 12-8), and Sunday (from 12-5), through the Sunday before Christmas. Actually I won't be there, but my product will, and my new assistant April will be there for me.
I had a GREAT weekend this weekend at Eastern Market, I haven't been there on Saturday's since May, when I started at the National Harbor, but I am back, and I thank everyone who came out to shop. Old and new customers alike, I thank you all very much. I met another bunch of new customers on Sunday, and a ton of people that met me for the first time at the Jill Scott show at Merriweather Post in Columbia, MD, back in August.
Please remember Christmas is coming and I won't be taking any last minute orders, please get your orders in before the first weekend in December. And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't call my house at midnight a week before Christmas begging me to make some hats ASAP because you need to give them as a Christmas gift, and you didn't think it would be a problem. Yes, you know who you are, and you know you were wrong, LOL!

HA! 2 posts in two days, whatever next? This is Mary, and she lives on "The Hill". Fortunately for me Mary can't stop by without buying a hat! This is hat # 4, and she has also bought a hat for her husband. Next is a scarf. Thanks Mary!!
I won't be at the market on Sunday, it seems the weather is going to be a little crazy. I don't mind the cold, but apparently it's going to be windy, so forget that! Instead you can catch me at Union Station. One of my friends has a kiosk there, and he has started carrying my hats. I haven't been over there, so I am going to go over on Sunday to arrange the display for him. He seems to be doing OK though, he's sold a few hats and scarves, but I think he thinks it needs a woman's touch, and to be quite honest I would like to see what it looks like for myself.

Well Happy New Year everybody!!! It's the beginning of February, and I am still catching up from the crazy fall and winter madness, which is a very good thing, but stressful. I still have a lot of custom orders to fill, but each week puts a serious dent in the list (especially since I am addicted to the Primaries and the debates - Go Obama!!
Thank you so much everybody for making 2007 such a wonderful year, and the way 2008 has started maybe this year will be even better.
I am at Dreadz n Headz on Friday, and at the market on Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting.
By the way the above photo is of Candace, she is a hat-a-holic! Doesn't she look cute.

A huge thanks to everyone that came out to the market this weekend. Each year gets better and better, and to my very loyal customers that come back on a weekly basis with their sisters, their friends, their mothers, so that they can get a hat, I thank you very much, it really means the world to me.
Here are some photos of some Saturday customers in their purchases, the two girls together are wearing the large flower cloche which are $30 each, and the other girl is wearing a knit and felted hat which is $48.
Off to knit and crochet some more - hopefully I'll see you this weekend!!

Jeez, I can't believe that it's been more than 6 months since I posted. However, I am still here and still busy. I am back at the market every weekend, and have been so pretty much since August 19. I wanted to post about this knit hat, which I have named Supersize Beret. If you scroll down to a previous post you will see it in a few different colors including the dark grey. It is by far my most popular hat, and because it's knit it is one of my most expensive at $48. I sold 4 of them this weekend. I introduced this hat 2 years ago at Adams Morgan Day, and it has grown in popularity ever since. Anyway, basic colors come in silver grey, dark grey, black, brown, mushroom, (which is the color that this lovely lady is wearing), two tone grey, dark blue, oatmeal, cream and red. These are the colors that I always have, and I generally have 2 or 3 of each color on hand. I also have it in a variegated, browns/yellows/pinks color which I have periodically and can make to order.
Let me know if you need to order a specific color for christmas, after Thanksgiving I will not be taking any more orders on custom colors for it.

So I guess Spring has finally sprung and I am ready. I have a new style spring cotton hat in a ton of colors, (sneak peak above), plus plenty of hats in hemp, bamboo and linen.
I've also got a bunch of new baby hat and bootie sets, for your spring showers (pardon the pun)!!
I will be back at the market this weekend, and every weekend through the end of June, when I will be taking a well earned (in my opinion 6 week break). In the meantime watch out for my halter tops and summer wear (coming in May), and my new spring purses, which I will have out at the market with me this weekend.
Don't forget you are free to email or call me with special requests for colors.

Back from the OC. The show turned out to be a bit of a disaster, due to the weather on Friday. Lots of rain and wind on Friday, and snow and ice too. Saturday was not too bad, and I managed to salvage it from being a total disaster. I sold a purse, several hats, including a bunch of kids hats of course, and I got a wholesale order. Probably wouldn't have been able to go to the market anyway, apparently the weather here was bad too. I came home and almost fell on my butt because my steps were covered in ice - ah well!!
I will be back at Dreadz and Headz beginning of April 5th and 6th, so check me out there.
I will be at the market on Sunday, so come check me out. Meanwhile here's a pic of two of my favorite market customers, Tazima and Dana. He's wearing a custom camo loc hat (made to order because he has a lot of locs, but I generally have the camo in what I consider to be average sized), and she is wearing a custom loc hat in Landscapes pinks.
His custom hat costs $35, hers cost $50. Let me know if I can custom order anything for you.

So this is the end of my relatively quiet period, meaning I will be away from Eastern Market for the next several weekends. Here is my schedule for the month of March/April:
16th-18th Ocean City
24th Private House Party
25th Eastern Market
31st-April 1 - Fort Meade Show
If anyone needs anything call or email me - sola@scarvelous.com, I will be at the Market on the 25th (weather permitting), but I drop off my custom orders once a week when I am not at the market.
April is kind of crazy too, but I am still around, and still working, so stay in touch.

I know that I promised to update more often, but this winter has been crazy. I finally quit my full time job on January 5th, and then I hit the ground running. I did a huge show over Martin Luther King holiday weekend, and the rest as they say is history. I have been working on wholesale orders from that show, and I will be at the www.dreadznheadz.com salon every month for 2 days. So come get your loc hats etc, email me to find out the dates.
I will be at Eastern Market the next 2 weekends, weather permitting, and then more shows. I will be in the OC (Ocean City) on St. Patricks weekend, and at various different shows around DC and Baltimore in March and April, email me for the list of locations and dates if you are interested, or if you just need to know the exact dates when I will be at Eastern Market. I will update with photos of the new spring baby items within the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile here are some hats, and some models!

I'm trying to find the time to blog on a more regular basis. It will be easier next month when I am no longer working full time....errrr, I mean no longer working at all. January 5th is my last official day, but I am hoping that they will let me leave earlier. I have so many bags that I have designed and written out patterns for, but haven't had the time to put the designs into practice. In the meantime here are a couple that have been designed, put into practice and are currently on sale.....
The charcoal purse is being modeled by Katrina www.theredpersimmon.com and it is priced at $120, the brown and orange avec fleur is $78 for the small and $90 for the larger size, sorry no dimensions, but I will take measurements and post.
See you at the market this weekend, it's possible that I will be breaking out the heater for the first time this year, since it's supposed to be in the 40's.

Busy. Busy. BUSY, but here are some photo updates. I have changed Saturday locations, so to make it easier on everybody here in the area I am at E. Market on Saturday and Sundays now. It's easier for all of my regular customers, and since the Saturday market is so good, more money for me!!!
This is the Landscapes hat that I promised, and here is someone that let me take her pic after she bought one.
These are $35 and come in several colors, pinks, blues, blacks etc. But the color above is the most popular.
Next time I'll post purse pics.

OK, so it's been months, but many fairs and festivals later, I am back, and now that my oh so fantastic man has set me up wirelessly I am sure that I will be posting more. This Saturday (21st) and next Saturday I'm doing shows, but I will be back at E. Market on Sundays starting this Sunday, and I'm doing Saturday's too until the end of the year. I have been getting emails from people regarding Christmas orders. It's the same policy every year, hats and scarves can be ordered up to 2 weeks prior to Christmas, hat and bootie sets MUST be ordered by Friday November 24, 2006.
My big fleur hats have gone up to $30 by the way. I will have some pics soon of some oh so fabulous hats done in LionBrand Landscapes.

Wow, I had no idea it would be this difficult to post regularly, but life takes over, and blogging takes a back seat. Back from my birthday weekend in the Poconos, and ready to start work again. These are two of my best sellers, I call them his 'n' hers because of the color combos and the flower. The regular 'loc' hat is $28 and the flower 'loc' is $32. If you catch me at a show I generally do a twofer deal, but not when I am at the weekly markets.

Jeez, what a crazy week. Sunday was CRAZY at Eastern Market. Sold a ton of "loc" hats, but remember this is Chocolate City, although loc-less people love them too. I've been busy all week, trying to replenish and not dig into the fall stash that I have been steadily working on for several months. Saturday is the Adams Morgan Night Market which we do twice a year. Come check me out, I'll be there until 10. Then Sunday I'll be at Eastern Market as usual.
I have photos to post, but haven't downloaded them from the camera. My crazy week also includes having a customer - Tawana, and her folks coming to the house on Friday night to purchase some hats before flying out to Jamaica on Saturday. She left me a wonderful voicemail message on Monday saying she purchased a hat on Sunday, and she had orders to get more and take them with her. Gotta love a customer like THAT!
Pic's coming soon, watch this space.
